Board of Directors

I am a Colorado native, raised in Golden and have lived in Boulder since 1968. Recently, I sold the business that I owned for 21 years.  I have been married for 36 years and have 4 lovely daughters. I hold a BA in History from the University of Colorado and have been President of the University of Colorado Parent’s Association, Admissions Volunteer and Mentor at University of Colorado, and have served on several boards, both profit and nonprofit.

Harmony provides excellent, quality care and gives a good jumpstart into recovery. I would absolutely send any of my friends or family to Harmony should they require treatment.

It is my extreme pleasure to serve on the Harmony Foundation Board of Directors and assist in fulfilling the mission of Harmony.

My occupation is Business Executive.

At the present time I am involved in Church work in Boulder, and am currently a member of the State of Colorado Policy Advisory Committee for substance abuse. In the past I have also served on the Executive Advisory Committee of the University of Colorado Business School.

My relationship with Harmony started when I received treatment for alcoholism back in 1977. I’ve been involved in one way or another ever since that time. Not long after I left Harmony, we organized a group called the “Friends of Harmony”. The group’s primary mission was to provide a way for recovering alcoholics and addicts to maintain their relationship with Harmony, and to provide some financial assistance to Harmony.  The Harmony Board of Directors decided to make the president of the Friends of Harmony a member of the Board, so I became a member of the Board when I became President of the Friends of Harmony in the early 1980’s. I’ve been on the Board ever since, serving in various capacities including President, Vice President, and Treasurer. 

On the personal side, my wife and I recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We have three adult children and 7 grandchildren. I am a Vietnam veteran, and am retired from IBM after more than 40 years in software development. In addition to Harmony, I’m also involved with the AARP Foundation (providing tax preparation services for seniors and the disadvantaged) and the Gold Crown Foundation, which provides supervised youth sports activities for middle school boys and girls.

One of the blessings of my association with Harmony has been to see the growth in both the treatment program and the physical assets at Harmony. My goal as a board member is to see Harmony maintain its current excellent reputation as it incorporates the best practices of the addiction treatment community.   

Susan is a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in Fort Collins and Windsor, Colorado, and she specializes in working with individuals struggling to recover from addictions.  She has worked in inpatient, residential, and outpatient treatment settings and is grateful to have the opportunity to bring her clinical expertise to the Board at Harmony.  Susan has been in recovery since 1996.

‘Hank’

 My journey to Harmony began by joining an Al Anon group in October 1975 in Boulder, CO. I had a female relative that needed help with an alcohol problem and I heard of Harmony Foundation from a friend who was a member of its Board of Directors. I brought my relative to Harmony in March 1976. She later became a counselor at a treatment facility; is now retired; and has 34 years of good sobriety. My wife and I were so impressed with Harmony that we attended the Saturday night dinners and meetings at Harmony for many years. 

We and a few close friends started the initial Harmony Club whose sole purposes were to raise funds for Harmony and to promote social activities for Harmony graduates to demonstrate that one can have fun without drugs and alcohol.

I have personally witnessed the healing of so many people over the last 34 years. The lasting friendships that have taken place and personal support received from these friends are beyond description. 

One of the major results is that my wife and I have enjoyed 53 years of marriage and have a loving relationship with our four adult children, their spouses and our grand children. Without involvement with Harmony, I doubt that this would ever have been possible.

BJ Jones

Being a Financial Advisor for Citistreet from 1990 to 2005 gives me the background for our finance committee. I have 15 years of sobriety, and being a part-time ski instructor at Vail Resorts allows me the time to pursue my passion for service.

I am extremely proud of the treatment process at Harmony, how it is run, what it stands for and the people involved in this great institution. I am grateful to have served on this board for the past five years and hope to continue my service.

 Sending a loved one to Harmony would assure they receive the best treatment possible. I have many friends that are sober today because they went to Harmony. In addition, I have met many Harmony alums that are so grateful for the treatment and sobriety that they were given at Harmony. Having been on the board for 5 years, I have come to know about Harmony’s treatment process and procedures. I am extremely proud to be a part of this incredible organization, what it is doing, and what it stands for.  

Cal Davis

Cal has worked in the medical profession since 1957 as a Medical Doctor, Instructor, Dean and Administrator.  Presently he enjoys membership in six different associations and societies, and, during his long career, has belonged to 13 others.  Cal has been a member of 31 different professional committees and he has, over the years, made himself available as Medical Advisor or Member of the Board of Directors of 8 different community programs in several states.  He has been published numerous times and sought out to give presentations on many various topics throughout the country.  At this time, he is enjoying his retirement and serving on the Board of Directors of the Harmony Foundation.

Marilyn Osborne Rock, RN MA

Having been involved for over twenty five years in Chemical Dependency Counseling with emphasis on family members has provided me the opportunity to witness the miracle for all with treatment and recovery.  Harmony has the quality of the treatment for this chronic disease including the physical aspects.

Currently a psychotherapist, Marilyn serves on the board of directors with both Harmony and the National Center for Intervention.  Her prior community affiliations include Sobriety House Inc, Urban Peak, Peer Assitance Service and Health Ministry Association. 

Jill Thomas

I have a considerable background in education, sales, market development and legal work, but my real training began when I initiated myself into the Twelve Step Program in 1996.

I have never looked back. My dedication to living in the solution of a devastating illness has caused me to ‘know a new freedom and a new happiness’ in my personal and professional life. It is my own small hope that my life experiences, strength and attitude can help promise those same positive results for other suffering addicts and alcoholics.

Boulder-raised, my interaction with the Harmony Foundation in Estes Park has roots dating back to helping friends deal with serious drug addiction here in the 1980s. I hold a B.A. in Business Marketing with a minor in education, have an extensive background in advertising and market development and currently work as the marketing coordinator and criminal defense investigator for the Law Office of Leo Legere in Superior.

But recovery is a personal issue for me, as is my support of the foundation through my position on the board of directors.

It is a mission of hope, supported by a beautiful location and dedicated staff. The physical, spiritual and psychological treatment available to alcoholics, addicts and their loving families is matchless.

I believe we are also matchless in our ability to produce not only positive change, but the support and hope that allows our clients to thrive in the long term, both personally and professionally.
